Music That Inspires Me

I love music. I can’t play any instruments, not my talent. And singing is not my strongest skill, although I have sung in church and in a talent show one year with my oldest son. Don’t get too excited about that. I’m an alto or tenor. I can even sing bass if I go low. No variants of soprano in this gal…hasn’t been since I was 10 or so.

I’m not one of those writers that can listen to it as I write, but it has a heavy impact on my style. Lyrics are important to me. I like to listen and paint a picture in my head. Many songs, even when they are not by a “Christian” group, have God running through them. He is the master Musician and finding him in the words and notes is fairly easy for me.

I’m going to give a few links and I will add and update this post from time to time. Hopefully you will love some of them as much as I do. You never know, you may be inspired to write your own story, and we can never have enough great stories in the world.

I listened to the band The Rocket Summer a whole lot while writing I Am Ocilla. The very first song I heard by them was one called Never Knew. This band is on the line of Christian and mainstream. Have a listen and see if you hear what I hear?

Never Knew

Show Me Everything You’ve Got

Do You Feel

So Much Love

Run To You

Treasures

Superchick  has some wonderful lyrics and and awesome upbeat.

Many a night I have stayed up listening to Casting Crowns. If I must admit it, I have cried a lot in doing so.

Praise You In This Storm

Does Anybody Hear Her

American Dream

While You Were Sleeping

Stained Glass Masquerade

Mercy Me is one of the first Christian groups I really felt deep in my bones. A real connection to God and other believers through song.

The Love of God

  1. “…God running through them.”

I’ve been on this side of the fence when it comes to music and Christ and God and I have never heard that line. Of course, it was waiting for you to invent it. I love it.

Mercy Me and Casting Crowns…you really can’t go wrong having these two anointed bands in your playlist. Off the topic, these two groups put a major tear and epic breaking of the argument of some that there is no place for music like this in the Christian world.

    I digress.

Awesome playlist. Music is without a doubt a constant in my and my wife’s life as well, of course.
