Happy May, friends. Hope the sun is shining bright and the world around you is covered in green buds and fragrant flowers. For those that have not been here for the last two months I will tell you what Going Nude means.
***side note**If you got here by way of search engine using the very popular terms “diane graham nude”, “diane graham topless”, “diane graham naked” or “diane graham boobies”, I’m sorry to disappoint you. The only nude around here will be of my naked soul. I assure you any other kind would scare the crap out of you and it is better for everyone that I have a little self-respect and modesty.
My debut novel I Am Ocilla officially published on March 1 of this year. There were some pre-orders and e-book buys before the actual launch. That is why there is a Going Nude February 2012. You can also check out Going Nude March 2012 to catch up. I also gave myself a challenge to sell 800 books by December 1st of this year. You can check that out HERE. That challenge may or may not come to fruition. God only knows. I decided I would break away from convention and show my readers the reality of publishing with an indie press…one that specializes in Christian speculative fiction. That is a very niche group with loyal followers. Indie presses do not have the marketing budgets like the bigger houses and that leaves the biggest burden on the authors to get the word out about their books and their presses. I knew this going in due to several wonderful people that shared their time and knowledge with me, the newbie.
I thought I would share also…just in a more public way. At the beginning of each month I tally all actual book that were sold. These do NOT include the books I’ve given away for promotional reasons or as gifts, but do include all print and e-book purchases. So without further ado…
Print copies sold- 2
Kindle sales- 6
Personal sales- 12
Bookstore sales- 2
The total for this month is 22. Add that to the tally from before of 110 and we are up to 132 books sold of I Am Ocilla. I have reached 16.5% of the 800 goal. As I’ve said in the past, every single copy sold is important. Some may scrunch their brow and think Ocilla’s numbers are sad, but I assure you they are above par for the average debut novelist. It’s hard work writing a book, but not nearly as hard as convincing others to take a chance with their hard-earned money and buy your baby.
Honestly, the very best marketing is free. The kicker is I am limited in the scope of my ability to do it for my girl. Word of mouth moves books faster than any million dollar ad campaign, but it is a multiperson venture and requires a passion for the product. It can’t be faked and it can’t be forced. As always, I place my work in God’s hands and accept the fact that HE is in control.
If you want to help I Am Ocilla reach the goal of 800 births there are many things you can do to help her. First would be to buy her for yourself and see if she is worth the money she cost you. HERE is a link to Splashdown Books’ bookshop, where you have many different options for format and links for purchase place. If you want a signed copy from me, email me and I will give you the details. Now, if you buy I Am Ocilla and really love her, tell a friend, leave an Amazon or B&N review, post a link on your Facebook wall, or even buy her as a gift to share Ocilla’s story with someone you love.
I thank all of you for your continued love and support as we move forward in the plan God has for us. Until next month…
Peace, love and God’s will.
